The Lands Geological Survey Division (LGSD) of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Central Office (MGB-CO) recently conducted the Workshop on the Standardized Procedures for Layouting Final Geohazard Maps to standardize the methodologies used in layouting the final geohazard maps.

The activity is in preparation for the printing and distribution this year of the 1:10,000 scale geohazard maps for all the Local Government Units, including all the barangays nationwide, and other stakeholders of the agency.

Sixty-one Geologists, Geographic Information System Specialists and Information Technology personnel from the MGB-CO and Regional Offices nationwide attended the Workshop.

In his welcome remarks, Engr. Juancho Pablo C. Calvez, MGB Chief Metallurgist, shared his insights and reiterated the importance of the Workshop in the achievement of MGB's work targets. He also emphasized the need to produce good quality maps which serve as effective tools for the national and local executives, as well as the general public, in planning the appropriate measures to mitigate the effects of natural hazards.

The personnel from the Lands Geological Information Management Section of LGSD served as resource persons and workshop facilitators.

The Workshop was held from January 18-28, 2016 at Icon Hotel, North EDSA, Quezon City.
