723 applicants vie for MGB posts
April 21, 2015
A total 723 examinees, composed of employees and outside applicants, took the simultaneous nationwide recruitment tests administered by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) recently. Said examinations are part of the recruitment process prescribed by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) in order to select the right people for the right job. This is also pursuant to the approved Merit Selection and Promotion Plan of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

MGB to adopt DBM-prescribed budgeting scheme

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), in preparing its 2016 budget proposal, will adopt the two-tier budget approach (2TBA) prescribed by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM). The 2TBA is a budgeting scheme designed to promote greater transparency, credibility, and accountability.

DENR issues breakthrough regulation on Small-Scale Mining

In line with the mining policy of the Aquino Administration, Secretary Ramon J. P. Paje of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) signed Department Administrative Order (DAO) No. 2015-03 providing for the revised implementing rules and regulations on of Republic Act No. 7076, the People’s Small-Scale Mining Act of 1991, in a serious effort to curb illegal mining and mitigate the adverse environmental impacts of indiscriminate mining operations in the country.

MGB implements new CSC performance evaluation system

In preparation for the full implementation of the prescribed performance evaluation system for government agencies, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) recently conducted the "Orientation on the Implementation of the Strategic Performance Management System (SPMS)” in compliance with the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Resolution No. 1200481 and Memorandum Circular No. 6, series of 2012.

MGB grants reprieve to three Zambales mines

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office (MGB-RO) No. III issued an Order temporarily lifting the suspensions imposed on the following Zambales nickel mines: lnl Archipelago Minerals, Inc. on February 10, 2015; and BenguetCorp Nickel Mines, Inc. and Eramen Mineral, Inc. on February 20, 2015.

MGB initiates research on residual gold recovery from mill tailings

Diliman, Quezon City - The Metallurgical Technology Division of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau is conducting a technical study on the recovery of residual gold from tailings of small-scale mining operations. This two-year project is aimed to generate various schemes of gold recovery processes with corresponding capital and operating cost estimates to treat various types of gold mill tailings.

Jasareno advocates women’s rights at MGB

Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Director Leo L. Jasareno is a staunch Gender and Development (GAD) advocate. During this Women’s Month celebration, he openly expressed support for having more female leaders in the agency. He said that it is high time to junk the conservative mind-set that leadership is a man’s turf.

Southern Negros Occidental losing 9.5 hectares of land annually
March 23, 2015
Coastal geohazards assessment and shoreline mapping conducted by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau in several cities and municipalities in Negros Occidental reveals that the southern coast of the region had been losing approximately 9.5 hectares to coastal erosion annually in the past 58 years.
