Metallic mineral production ends 2013 in high spirits

The Philippine metallic mineral production value ended the year in high spirits with a PhP298 million gain from PhP99.04 billion in 2012 to PhP99.33 billion in 2013. Nickel direct shipping ore and sulfides accounted for 41.31%, or PhP41.04 billion, of the total production value. Gold came in second with 32.66%, or PhP32.44 billion, while copper took the third spot with 22.51%, or PhP22.36 billion, in 2013. The remaining 3.52%, or PhP3.50 billion, came from the collective values of silver, zinc, chromite and iron ore.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Regional Office No. V recently issued Environment Protection Cases (EPC) against Bohai Top International Mining Corporation (BTIMC) and Liaoning Fenghua Group Philippines Mining Conpany, Inc. (LFGPMCI) for operating without the necessary Mineral Processing Permit in the province of Camarines Norte.

MST performance review recommends cancellation of 43 MPSAs

The initial performance review of all existing mining operations conducted by the Multi-Stakeholder Teams (MST) chaired by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Regional Directors recently recommended the cancellation of 43 Mineral Production Sharing Agreements (MPSA) to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

MGB attends training on PPSAS, RCA

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), represented by personnel from its Finance Division, attended the five-day training program on the Philippine Public Sector Accounting Standards (PPSAS) and the revised Chart of Accounts (RCA) conducted by Commission on Audit (COA) recently. Said training was in coordination with the Department of Budget and Management as part of the Philippine Public Financial Management (PFM) Reforms under COA Circular No. 2013-002 dated January 30, 2013.

MGB, NBI dismantle illegal mining structures in Cagayan

A composite team composed of personnel from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. II, and elements of the National Bureau of Investigation dismantled recently the remaining structures used by Huaxia Mining and Trading Corporation in its illegal black sand mining operations in Barangay Paddaya, Aparri Cagayan.
