In line with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Mines and Geosciences Bureau’s (DENR-MGB) persistent effort towards sustainable and responsible mining, the #MineResponsibility Campaign was created with the main goal of spreading awareness on responsible mining. This is done through research-based facts, as well as the mandate that DENR-MGB only allows operations of companies that observe responsible mining, all of which are showcased in creative media.

After undergoing a rigorous bidding process, it was agreed upon that the entirety of the project be launched with a reasonable budget of PHP 8.6M. This allocation covers everything from conceptualization, creation of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) print materials (posters and brochures), social media account management and content, production of the TVC, online advertisement and documentary outputs, as well as the actual launch itself.

The official meeting for the launch of the Campaign kicked off last June 28, 2019. Discussions on how the Campaign will be handled throughout various social media platforms were carried. Eventually, teasers of the television (TV) and online advertisements were posted, building up the audiences’ knowledge and awareness towards the upcoming launch.

After months of preparation building up to the launch, the #MineResponsibility campaign officially commenced last November 8, 2019 in full force, with the TV and online advertisements entitled “Kutsara” and “Minsan Kitang Minahan” respectively, along with the documentary video “Biyaya ng Lupa”, formally premiered in full-length. Guests were able to experience the Virtual Reality system, enabling them to see what happens from the extractive to the rehabilitation process of mining sites. A gallery showcasing the overview of the Campaign along with testimonials was also set up.

Because the #MineResponsibility was well-received by the public in terms of communicating the responsible mining practices and initiatives of the companies—together with DENR-MGB’s responsible mining policies and actions—the mining companies are willing to allot a portion of their IEC and Development of Mining Technology and Geosciences component from their Social Development and Management Program for this endeavor. All these are facilitated by MGB to ensure that the continuing endeavor to promote responsible mining is sustained across the country.
