The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) announced the Call for Nominees among Mining Contractors, Permit Holders, and Permittees and their Operator/s for the 2021 Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Awards (PMIEA), Mining Forest Program (MFP) – Best Mining Forest Contest, and Safest Mine Award (SMA) through a Memorandum to all MGB Regional Offices (ROs) on June 22, 2021.
It may be recalled that during the 1st Quarter of the year, the 2020 PMIEA, MFP and SMA offsite selection and validation were carried out covering the Safety and Health, Environment, and Social Development and Management (SHES) accomplishment of companies during the period of July 2019 to June 2020. Likewise, the awarding ceremony for the 2020 PMIEA, Best Mining Forest Contest, and SMA was conducted on March 18, 2021.
Given that quarantine measures and travel restrictions are still being imposed throughout the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic, offsite selection and validation activities will still be followed for the evaluation of the safety and health, environmental management and reforestation, and social/community development performance and accomplishments of Mining Contractors/Permit Holders/Permittees for June 2020 to July 2021. The offsite selection processes for the above-mentioned awards shall involve the following activities: call for nomination; pre-evaluation of MGB ROs and endorsement/submission of entries/nomination to MGB Central Office (CO); initial review and evaluation of the Technical Working Group/Technical Secretariat; initial deliberation/shortlisting of PMIEA Selection Committee (SC)/MFP-NEC; virtual presentation of Contractors/Permittees/Permit Holders; offsite validation; and final deliberation and review of (PMIEASC)/MFP – National Executive Committee (NEC).
The existing guidelines on the offsite validation and selection for the PMIEA, MFP – Best Mining Forest and SMA, which were previously approved by the PMIEASC and MFP – NEC last November 2020, require nominees to submit PMIEA/MFP write-up, supporting SHES and MFP documents, and audio-visual presentation as part of their entry. Documents, together with the endorsement of the respective ROs, shall be submitted to MGB CO at This email address is being protected from spambots.
