On September 10, 2021, concerned members from the mining and bamboo industry held an online summit focused on the reimagining, developing, and sustaining mining communities in the Philippines with the utilization of bamboo in a program called, "Bamboo Economics and Initiatives to Re-imagine Mining into Social Enterprises."

The program was achieved through the collaboration of the Philippine Bamboo Industry Development Council, Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), Chamber of Mines of The Philippines, Philippine Mining Club, Philippine Nickel Industry Association, and the Bamboo Professionals Inc.

As part of the Bamboo Plantation Development Project of the expanded National Greening Program (NGP), the summit was conducted to introduce bamboo reforestation in reinventing mining by not only through rehabilitation of mined out areas, but also creating sustainable social enterprises for mining communities.

Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Roy Cimatu emphasized the promotion of bamboo-planting to mitigate CO2 and other greenhouse gases in the Philippines.

DENR-MGB Director Atty. Wilfredo G. Moncano was among the speakers invited to give a presentation on the said event along with other officials from the Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Finance, Department of Science and Technology, financial institutions, and key players from the mining industry.
