The Sustainable Pathway for the Philippine Nickel Sector (SusNi), a project collaboration between Caraga State University, Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Caraga Regional Office (RO) No. XIII, and the British Geological Survey, arranged an Online Information Education Communication (IEC) Campaign Development Forum last September 29, 2021 via Zoom platform. The purpose of the event is to inform the development of IEC materials through stakeholder’s engagement, identifying the key messages and issues to be addressed in producing IEC materials and identifying the appropriate platform and present a policy brief developed by the project team titled “Mainstreaming SESA in Producing Clean Nickel”. MGB was represented by Information Officers who participated in the forum.
Dr. Romell A. Seronay, Project Leader, Caraga State University, presented the policy brief titled ”Developing a Sustainable Pathway for the Philippine Nickel Sector”. The Strategic Environmental and Social Assessment serves as the center for this project and is responsible for attaining the sustainable development goal of producing clean nickel. Ms. Irish Jane N. Calungsod, resource speaker for the Collaborative IEC Campaign Development Workshop, discussed how to develop key messages for a more effective campaign promotion. To officially end the event, the parting remarks was delivered by Engr. Francis Glenn N. Suante, Officer-in-Charge of Mine Safety, Environment, and Social Development Division, MGB-RO XIII.
