In celebration of the Philippine mining month, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) held a virtual launching ceremony of updated rain-induced landslide, flood, and karst subsidence geohazard Information, Education and Communication (IEC) posters for the public.
Spearheaded by Ms. Liza Socorro J. Manzano, Chief of MGB Lands and Geology Survey Division (LGSD), the ceremonial unveiling of the updated geohazard posters transpired last November 19, 2021, at 2:00 pm in the LGSD lobby. In attendance for the ribbon-cutting ceremony was MGB Director Atty. Wilfredo G. Moncano, MGB Asst. Director Engr. Roland A. De Jesus, DENR Assistant Secretary for Mining Concerns, Engr. Nonita S. Caguioa, and LGSD Division Chief Liza Socorro J. Manzano. The ribbon-cutting was also witnessed by other central office division chiefs, LGSD, and other MGB personnel.
A virtual event via Zoom was also held coinciding with the ceremony. Solidarity messages from notable officials and an audio-visual presentation on the history of MGB’s geohazard mapping and assessment and the evolution of the IEC posters were presented. Atty. Analiza Rebuelta-The, CESO I, DENR Undersecretary for Finance, Information Systems and Climate Change was also invited to give a keynote speech at the virtual event.
For a unified understanding of the geohazard posters, LGSD created versions that are translated into nine (9) local languages.

As natural disasters bring great structural changes to the earth and impact the lives of Filipinos, updating geohazard warnings is important in order to have widespread information on the hazard susceptibility of areas. It is useful for disaster preparedness and management.
