Intended to increase the awareness of the public on disaster preparedness, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), participated in the recently concluded first Metro-wide Earthquake Drill spearheaded by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

The MGB contingent led by its Administrative Division participated in the North Quadrant Sector shake drill activity held at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center Golf Course together with various public and private sectors coming from Cities of Caloocan, Valenzuela, San Juan and Mandaluyong.

The earthquake drill was held simultaneously in Metro Manila from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM on July 31, 2015. In a related news, MMDA Chairman Atty. Francis Tolentino expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming response of different sectors of the society to the just-concluded metro shake drill.

"Without being immodest, we at the MMDA were confident from the outset that the public would give their full support and cooperation to an exercise of this magnitude because the painstaking efforts of both the government and private sector come to terms to the challenges of the times and have that sense of urgency to deal with calamities and other exigencies have bore fruit," Chairman Tolentino said.

According to the MMDA Chief, the overwhelming support the Metro-wide shake drill received from the various sectors clearly proves that government efforts in all disaster management activities have been successful, particularly in increasing the citizenry's level of awareness making them conscious and prepared for any disaster.
