On June 14, 2022, various Selection Committees through the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) announced the Call for Nominees among Mining Contractors, Permit Holders, and Permittees for the 2022 Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Awards (PMIEA), Mining Forest Program – Best Mining Forest Contest (BMFC), Safest Mines Awards (SMA), and Best Mines Personalities Awards.

The above-mentioned Awards are annually being conferred to companies with ongoing mining, mineral processing, or mineral exploration activities. Companies that demonstrated exemplary performance in management of mine safety and health, environment, and social or community development, including reforestation activities, for the period of July 2021 to June 2022 are qualified for the subject Awards.

The MGB Regional Offices, as indicated in the Memorandum of the MGB Director dated June 14, 2022, were instructed to carry out the preliminary evaluation of the Safety and Health, Environmental, and Social Development and Management (SHES) accomplishments of all Contractors, Permit Holders, and Permittees applying for nomination through the conduct of onsite validation or virtual meeting.

It may be recalled that for the past two (2) years, the selection processes for PMIEA, BMFC, and SMA were completely executed virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Given the current easement in travel restrictions, onsite validation is expected in the 2nd semester of CY 2022, subject to the approval of the members of the various Selection Committees.

The existing guidelines on the validation and selection for the PMIEA, BMFC, and SMA that require nominees to submit PMIEA/MFP write-up, supporting SHES and MFP documents, and audio-visual presentation as part of their entry shall remain. Entry documents, together with the endorsement of the respective MGB Regional Offices, shall be submitted to MGB Central Office at This email address is being protected from spambots.
