The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)- Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), through the planetGOLD Philippines Project, conducted an orientation/seminar on DENR Administrative Order No. 2022-03 and writeshop for MGBโ€™s Core Group of Trainors for the small-scale mining (SSM) sector on August 8 to 12, 2022 at the Hotel Lucky Chinatown, Binondo, Manila City.

Spearheaded by MGBโ€™s Mining Technology Division, the Orientation/Seminar and Writeshop commenced with an opening message by MGB Director Atty. Wilfredo G. Moncano. It was followed by a discussion of the history and background of small-scale mining in the Philippines, the policies governing the sector, and the current directions of SSM in the Philippines.

DENR Assistant Secretary for Finance, Information Systems and Mining Concerns Engr. Nonita S. Caguioa gave a message of support on the 2nd day of the event.

Artisanal Gold Council Philippines National Project Manager Abigail Ocate and National Assistant Project Manager Michelle Manza joined the event and provided an overview of planetGOLD Philippines and an introduction to the one-stop-shop interactive knowledge management platform that the project intends to establish.

The five-day event is the second installment of MGB's writeshop series which aims to further capacitate the Core Group of Trainors for the SSM sector. It focused on the evaluation and revision of the documentary submissions pursuant to DENR Administrative Order No. 2022-03 entitled, โ€œRevised Implementing Rules and Regulations of the Republic Act No. 7076, otherwise known as the โ€œPeopleโ€™s Small-Scale Mining Act of 1991โ€.

Fifty-seven representatives from the MGB Central and Regional Offices participated in the event. This is part of the continuous commitment of MGB and AGC Philippines to transform the SSM operations in the Philippines to a safer, cleaner, more profitable and responsible sector in the mining industry.
