Twenty-nine (29) mining companies are vying for this year’s Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award (PMIEA) after meeting the minimum requirements and passing the initial evaluation of the PMIEA Selection Committee held at the Mines and Geosciences (MGB) Multi-Purpose Building and via Microsoft Teams on September 8, 2022. The following companies are shortlisted for the 2022 PMIEA:
The PMIEA was established by virtue of Executive Order No. 399 on February 3, 1997, to recognize the exemplary efforts of mining groups and companies in the country in achieving environmentally and socially responsible mining operations.
Along with the PMIEA, the National Executive Committee (NEC) recognizes the exemplary commitment of mining companies on their progressive rehabilitation initiatives through the Best Mining Forest Contest (BMFC) under the Mining Forest Program (MFP). The following are the thirty-two (32) companies who made the cut after the evaluation of the NEC last September 7, 2022 at the MGB Multi-Purpose Building:
The implementation of MFP is in accordance with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Administrative Order No. 22, Series of 1989 in re: Guideline for the Implementation of Adopt-A-Tree, Adopt-A-Mining Forest Movement and NEC Resolution No. 2005-02 dated October 26, 2005 in re: Changing Adopt-A-Tree, Adopt-A-Mining Forest Movement into Mining Forest Program.
Moreover, after two (2) years of doing offsite assessment and virtual validation for the PMIEA due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s validation of the accomplishments made by the shortlisted mining companies will be conducted onsite from September 19 to October 21, 2022 by the PMIEA SC and its Technical Working Group (TWG) and the NEC and its Technical Secretariat.
The final deliberation and review of the NEC and the PMIEA SC will be on October 26 and 27, 2022, respectively. Lastly, the awarding ceremony will be conducted in line with the celebration of the 68th Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference (ANMSEC) Testimonial Dinner and Annual Awards Night on November 18, 2022 at CAP – John Hay Trade and Cultural Center, Baguio City.
