The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), through the Hydrogeology and Environmental Geology Section (HEGS) of the Lands Geological Survey Division (LGSD), conducted the OYO Geologger-GWS 3i and GW Combination Probe Training last October 24-28, 2022 at San Fernando City, La Union.
The five (5)-day event was attended by 50 participants from LGSD and Geosciences Division of MGB Regional Offices. The training was held in line with the continuous capacity building of geologists from MGB to improve their technical know-how in implementing various national mapping programs of the office. It aimed to demonstrate the instrumentation of the geologger equipment, equip participants in the conduct of geophysical logging (including analysis and interpretation of the generated data), and establish the application of the geophysical logging technique in future groundwater investigations. The training consisted of series of lectures and discussions on the principles behind the operation and use of the equipment, as well as, practical exercises which were facilitated by invited resource speaker, Mr. Mark Nico Doblado of De Leon Import and Export Corporation.
Some of the highlights of the training which was discussed by Mr. Socrates G. Gaerlan, Regional Director, MGB Regional Office No. I, include: potential applications of the geologger to the Groundwater Resource and Vulnerability Assessment Program of HEGS; actual operation of the geologger equipment; data acquisition in the field using newly drilled well; and the data processing and interpretation of results. The training lectures and activities encouraged fruitful discussions and collective learning among the participants.
