A chemist from the Lands Geological Survey Division participated in the International Conference on Chemistry (IC2) organized by the Kapisanang Kimika ng Pilipinas Inc. in cooperation with the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Office of the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation and the UST Research Center for the Natural and Applied Sciences with the theme, “Chemistry Innovations for World Needs,” which was held on February 15-17, 2023 at the UST, Manila, Philippines.

The forum provides a venue for the scientific community to discuss, exchange ideas, and network for promoting development and innovations through plenary talks, simultaneous parallel sessions, and workshops from international and local experts of various fields to share their knowledge and expertise with the chemistry community worldwide.

In connection, on behalf of his co-researchers under the Project-1 component of PhilKARST Program, Mr. Arbe A. Ferreras, Senior Science Research Specialist, presented one of the research outputs entited: “Karst Groundwater Resource and Hydrogeochemical Assessment in Tourism Areas in the Philippines: A Case Study in the Municipalities of General Luna and Del Carmen, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte”. The shared research is in harmony with the conference themes that reflect the fundamental role that chemistry plays in protecting society and our local space.

The event was participated by chemists, chemical technicians, chemistry teachers, and scientists from other fields from both local and international industries, academe, government sections, as well as chemistry undergraduate and graduate students.
