Filminera Resources Corporation (FRC), located in Brgy. Puro, Aroroy, Masbate, was selected to be one of the study areas, shown in Figure 1, for the Research and Development Project re: "Application of Real/Semi-Real Time Monitoring Instruments in Tailings Storage Facilities (TSF) in the Philippines." Engineers. Erwin Bautista and Carmina Glydelle R. Gases, of the Mining Technology Division (MTD), Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), carried out the site visit from May 2-12, 2023.

The Team, composed of personnel from MGB-MTD and FRC, carried out a series of activities aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of various monitoring instruments in the TSF and the potential of the instruments in monitoring remotely and real/semi-real time. The results of the research activity shall be the basis of future policies to address tailings management. The Team operated several instruments targeted to monitor different parameters. Collection and initial processing of relevant data were also conducted to gain a holistic appreciation of the applications of the monitoring instruments.  The parameters being monitored by the instruments include ground movement, seismic activities, groundwater and ground pressure, water flow, water level, and weather parameters such as precipitation, wind speed, wind direction, and air pressure.
