Chemists from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Central Office participated in the 37th Philippine Congress, which took place from July 26-28, 2023, at SMX Convention Center in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.
The theme for this year, “Chemistry and Agriculture 4.0: Chemistry for Agriculture and Food Security,” emphasized the significance of chemistry in enhancing the utilization of agricultural resources, increasing productivity for food security, and addressing the challenges encountered by the agricultural sector.
Various plenary lectures and presentations covered pertinent areas such as the impacts of climate change, developments in agricultural chemicals, food contaminants, and food security, among others. Attendees from the Central office also found interest in research topics spanning Environmental Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Food Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, and Instrumentation.

Moreover, Dr. Carlos Primo David, the Undersecretary for Integrated Environmental Science at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), participated in the event as the keynote speaker representing DENR Secretary, Ma. Antonio Yulo-Loyzaga. His presentation centered on exploring the contributions of Chemistry in addressing climate change and its implication for Philippine agriculture.
This annual event provides an excellent opportunity for chemists and allied professions from academe, industry, and government to exchange new knowledge and perspectives, while also fostering collaboration to promote innovations and societal advancement in our country.
