The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Central Office Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System (GFPS) conducted a Training-Workshop on Sex-Disaggregated Data, Gender Analysis, and GAD Plans and Programs last August 17-18, 2023, at the MGB Multi-Purpose Hall, MGB Compound Quezon City.
The two-day training-workshop focused on mapping of potential programs and projects of MGB’s various divisions for GAD Attribution purposes by assessing the same with the use of the Harmonized GAD Guidelines (HGDG) as the Gender Analysis tool. It aims to assess the respective division’s progress in gender mainstreaming, identify the division’s projects and areas for improvement in the sex-disaggregated data and gender analysis, and identify the next steps to be done.
Engr. Romualdo D. Aguilos, Chief of the Mineral Economics, Information and Publication Division (MEIPD) delivered the opening remarks on behalf of Atty. Danilo U. Uykieng, MGB Director and MGB GAD Chairperson. He commended the GFPS for organizing the workshop, and for enabling MGB as a contributor to national development.
The workshop consisted of Learning Sessions in Basic GAD concepts, Plenary Sessions in mapping and presenting potential programs, and Workshop sessions in assessment and development of project proposals. Resource speaker Mr. Don V. Liongson, alongside MGB GAD Focal Person Ms. Diory G. Carr, led the participants in the said activities.
Meanwhile, Engr. Teodorico A. Sandoval, OIC-Assistant Director delivered the closing remarks. He expressed his gratitude to the GFPS and the participants, and hoped that the goal to achieve gender equality at MGB was reached.
All divisions of the MGB Central Office were represented by the respective GAD Division Focal Person, while some representatives from the MGB Regional Offices joined via Microsoft Teams.
The training-workshop was organized pursuant to Republic Act No. 9710 or the Magna Carta of Women Act, Chapter VI, Sec. 36, for all departments and agencies to adopt gender mainstreaming as a strategy to promote women’s rights and eliminate gender discrimination in the system, policies, thrusts, and programs.
