The 69th Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference (ANMSEC) Mine Safety Field Competition culminated in a thrilling display of expertise and skills at the Melvin Jones Football Grounds last November 17, 2023. While demonstrating the industry's commitment to safety and proficiency, mining companies from across the country participated in various competitions to showcase their prowess in emergency response, firefighting, and operational techniques.
The event kicked off with a vibrant parade from SM City Baguio through Baguio Session Road and culminated at the Melvin Jones Football Grounds. The parade was accompanied by the Baguio City National High School Band and the Saint Louis University Band. The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Central and Regional Offices, mining companies, service contractors, suppliers, the academe, and other civic organizations took part in the said parade.
Engr. Jeremias S. Dolino, Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA) Board Director and Chairperson of the Mine Safety Field Competition Committee extended a warm welcome and shared his remarks with the participants that the theme of the 69th ANMSEC, Mining 4.0 Safer, Smarter, Sustainable, marks an era of transformation, where innovation intertwines with tradition, where safety, intelligence, and sustainability converge to redefine the mining landscape.
Special recognitions were also provided by the PMSEA Board to the following organizations for their invaluable support to the conduct of the Mine Safety Field Competition:
- MGB Cordillera Administrative Region
- Itogon-Suyoc Resources, Inc.
- Bureau of Fire Protection – Baguio City Fire Station
- Saint Louis University; and
- Cebu Institute of Technology University
The event was officially inaugurated by Engr. Louie R. Sarmiento, PMSEA President, setting the stage for an intense showcase of expertise.

First Aid Competition

Fire Brigade (Busted Hose and Up-The-Ladder) Competition

Fire Extinguishing Competition
- Champion: Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation

Hand Mucking Competition

The competitions not only highlighted the competitive spirit among mining companies but also underscored the paramount importance placed on safety and emergency response within the industry.
Engr. Marcial H. Mateo, Chief of the Mine Safety, Environment, and Social Development Division of MGB Central Office gave the closing remarks and expressed his gratitude to all participating companies, emphasizing the collective effort toward fostering a culture of safety within the mining industry. The event's success was attributed to the unwavering commitment and enthusiasm demonstrated by all participants.
