A chemist from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Central Office participated in the Training Course on Radiation Protection for Radiation Protection Officers of Industrial X-ray Facilities held at the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI), Diliman, Quezon City, from November 28-30, 2023.
Ms. Marylle del Castillo, from the Chemical Laboratory Service Section of MGB, was one of the participants who took part in this 3-day training course.
The training course, attended by more than 30 participants comprising engineers, researchers, health and safety officers, and X-ray device users from both the public and private sectors, provided comprehensive insights into radiation physics, biology, and protection.
On the inaugural day, Dr. Vallerie Ann Samson, the Deputy Director of PNRI, welcomed the participants by sharing her expertise in x-ray radiation starting with the basic concepts of nuclear physics and progressing to the recent advancements of our country in the field of nuclear science.
The training also covered crucial regulations governing X-ray facility operations, elements of a radiation safety program, and the duties carried out by a radiation protection officer.
This three-day training was conducted by PNRI in partnership with the Philippine Society for Nondestructive Testing, Inc. (PSNT) and, in collaboration with the Center for Device Regulation, Radiation Health, and Research (CDRRHR).
