Two (2) foresters of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Central Office (MGB CO) earned master’s degrees from the Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC) of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for the academic year 2023.

Last July 6, 2023, For. Christian Kevin A. Latiza, Chief, Mine Environmental Management Section, Mine Safety, Environment and Social Development Division (MSESDD), has completed the Master in Public Safety Administration (MPSA) Batch 2022-2024, Class Hapsay. 

He is a recipient of the Dr. Jose P. Rizal Academic Excellence Award (Bronze Medalist) and Silver Medalist for his research paper entitled, “STRENGTHENING DISASTER AND CLIMATE RESILIENCE INTEGRATION IN THE SAFETY AND HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS OF MINING COMPANIES IN THE PHILIPPINES.”

The MPSA is the flagship program of the PPSC in the professional training and education of uniformed personnel as well as selected senior executives and fellows from other government institutions, academe, industries, and policy think tanks.

Moreover, the MPSA program aims to prepare the next generation of public safety and security administrators and leaders by deepening, expanding, and adopting a comprehensive, strategic, and global outlook for public safety administration and governance within the homeland security and international system framework. Likewise, the MPSA aims to sustain the momentum of building a critical mass of leaders, scholars, and practitioners for the multi-sectoral and non-military component of national security that specializes in governance of public safety and internal peace and security.

On the other hand, last December 7, 2023, For. Teodorico L. Marquez, Jr., Chief, Mine Rehabilitation Section, MSESDD, has completed the Master in Crisis and Disaster Risk Management (MCDRM) Batch 6, Class Kampilan.

For. Marquez is also a recipient of the Dr. Jose P. Rizal Academic Excellence Award (Bronze Medalist) and Bronze Medalist for his research paper entitled, “A CONTENT ANALYSIS ON THE PROCESS OF LINKING UN-SDGS WITH THE SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT PROGRAM OF LARGE-SCALE MINING COMPANIES.”

The MCDRM is the flagship program of the PPSC for highly qualified senior executives in government and private sectors, academe, industries, policy think tanks, uniformed officers in the interior sector, public safety, and disaster risk management services. In addition, the MCDRM program aims to prepare the next generation of competent crisis and disaster risk managers with a deep understanding of the nature and issues surrounding crisis and disaster risk management, and the regional and global necessity of experts.

 Further, the MCDRM aims to build a critical mass of leaders, scholars, practitioners, and policy advisers who will take the lead in strengthening capacities toward climate change adaptation, effective disaster risk management, and crisis management.
