The Philippine contingents triumphantly claimed four (4) major awards competing for different categories for Best Practices on Sustainable Mineral Development, in the recently concluded 3rd ASEAN Mineral Awards (AMA) held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
FCF Minerals Corporation has been awarded as 1st runner-up in the Mineral Mining (Metallic) category and 2nd runner-up in the Mineral Processing (Metallic) category, while Hinatuan Mining Corporation – Tagana-an Nickel Project won 2nd runner-up under Best Practices in Distribution category.
Meanwhile, Republic Cement & Building Materials, Inc. Bulacan Plant has been recognized as 1st runner-up in the Mineral Mining (Non-Metallic) category.
The Mines and Geosciences Bureau, representing the Philippine Delegation, was led by Engr. Teodorico A. Sandoval, OIC Assistant Director along with the Philippine Consul General to Cambodia, Honorable Emma R. Sarne - Minister as Head of Delegation.
The AMA is a biennial award established to honor ASEAN mining companies that have made outstanding contributions toward the promotion of environmentally and socially sustainable minerals development in the ASEAN region. The AMA recognizes contributions involving actual impacts on community development, implications on ASEAN minerals supply, human resource development, productivity, and resource efficiency, and actual measures to address health, safety, and environmental performance.
The awarding ceremony was witnessed by the Secretary-General of ASEAN Dr Kao Kim Hourn which was held during a gala dinner at the 3rd ASEAN Mineral Awards Ceremony of the 9th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Minerals also held in Phnom Penh last November 23, 2023.
The 1st AMA and 2nd AMA were held in 2017 and 2019, respectively. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the 3rd AMA which was originally intended for 2021 was rescheduled to 2023.
