In a bid to bolster workplace safety and prioritize the well-being of maintenance personnel, Engr Francis John G. Gaffud from the Metallurgical Technology Division – Mechanical Electrical Services Section (MESS) recently participated in a comprehensive training seminar on Construction Occupational Safety and Health. Hosted by the Onergy Safety Training Center, the seminar took place from March 4th to March 8th, 2024, with Gaffud attending via an online platform.
The training session aimed to equip attendees with essential knowledge and tools to foster a safer work environment, particularly in the realm of preventive maintenance for building and laboratory equipment. Key topics covered during the seminar included risk assessment methodologies, the implementation of lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and other vital safety strategies.
Armed with newfound insights and best practices gleaned from the seminar, the MESS section is now poised to implement a range of safety measures within their operations. These include conducting comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential hazards, ensuring the proper implementation of LOTO protocols to prevent accidents during equipment servicing, among others.
The significance of prioritizing safety in preventive maintenance cannot be overstated. By proactively identifying and mitigating common hazards, organizations can effectively minimize risks, boost productivity, and most importantly, safeguard the well-being of their workforce.
Investing in Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) goes beyond mere compliance with legal obligations—it is a fundamental commitment to protecting the lives and health of workers. Through ongoing training initiatives and the adoption of best practices, workplaces can create a culture of safety that permeates every aspect of their operations, ultimately fostering a healthier and more productive work environment.
