  The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Employees Association (MGBEA) Central Office conducted the “Seminar on Mining and Geology on Everyday Living” last April 2-4, 2024 at the Oscar Crispin Hall, Petrolab Building, MGB Compound, North Ave., Diliman, Quezon City.

  Dr. Maybellyn A. Zepeda, MGBEA President, delivered her opening remarks followed by an inspirational message from the MGB Director, Atty. Danilo U. Uykieng. The participants were tasked to answer a pre-test before the beginning of the session.

  During the morning session of Day 1, Mr. Anthony V. Bien of the Mining Tenement Management Division (MTMD) discussed the overview, functions, and mandates of the MTMD. Meanwhile in the afternoon session, Engr. Jaypee D.Juanerio of the Mining Technology Division (MTD) shared the functions of MTD and the minerals present in everyday living, especially in the technology aspect.

  Day 1 concluded with the orientation for the Lands Geological Survey Division (LGSD) and Metallurgical Technology Division (MetD) laboratory tour by the MGBEA Officers.

  On the Day 2 morning session, Senior Geologist Raymund Thaddeus Ancog of LGSD and Engr. Karl Justine Abang of MetD discussed about their respective divisions’ functions and mandates. Both also further discussed the laboratory services offered by both divisions prior to the submission of rock and mineral samples for laboratory analysis. 

  On the other hand, the afternoon session focused on the functions and mandates of the Marine Geological Survey Division (MGSD) as well as the RPS Explorer, MGB’s research vessel. This was discussed by Ms. Kristine Joy Motol of MGSD.

  Day 2 ended with the presentation of the functions and mandates of the Mine Safety Environmental and Social Development Division (MSESDD), as well as the best practices of Mine Safety and Health, Rehabilitation and Social Development in Mining Companies. These were discussed by Engr. Robert Glicer Domingo, For. TeodoricoMarquez, and Mr. Gilbert Aquino of MSESDD.

  On the last day, the participants toured around the MetD and LGSD Laboratories, including the rock sample preparation room, the Geological Laboratory Services Section of LGSD, and the Chemical Laboratory Services Section of MetD. 

  It concluded with the participants sharing their experiences and learnings in the recent lectures and laboratory tour. They also answered the post-test and training evaluation.

  The three (3)-day seminar was attended by selected employees from the MGB CO from the technical and non-technical divisions as stated on Special Order No. 2024-049.
