In a significant move to enhance workplace safety and environmental responsibility, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) recently held a comprehensive training session on April 26, 2024. The event, part of the Values Enhancement Program, focused on the 7S and 3Rs principles, emphasizing fire protection, safety training, and environmental care.
The one-day training, organized by the Administrative Division, was conducted in a hybrid format, engaging thirty-three personnel from various divisions online and in-person. This initiative aligns with the Learning and Development Program of the office and commemorates Earth Month, underscoring the DENR's commitment to environmental stewardship.
The primary objective of the training was to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to implement basic environmental care practices in their daily routines.
Ms. Leilani M. Saunders, Administrative Officer IV, kicked off the event by explaining the rationale behind the training and outlining its objectives. Ms. Edna R. Lorilla, Chief of the Administrative Division, then led the detailed discussions.
The training covered critical aspects of waste management and workplace organization, including:
The 3Rs of Waste Management:
- Reduce: Strategies to minimize waste production.
- Reuse: Creative ways to upcycle items.
- Recycle: Proper waste processing and the importance of recycling.
The 7Rs of Waste Management:
- Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Repurpose, Reuse, Recycle, Rot/Recover: Practical steps to integrate these principles into daily home and workplace activities.
Residual Management:
- Addressing the challenges of non-biodegradable waste and highlighting the differences between safe and unsafe plastics.
5S as a Tool for Workplace Organization:
- Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain: The principles of 5S, their objectives, importance, and benefits, were discussed with practical examples to improve workplace safety and efficiency.
The Administrative Division recommended conducting additional training sessions to expand the program's reach and issuing a memorandum for returning unused supplies to the property management section.
