Chemists and chemical technicians from the MGB Central Office participated in the 38th Philippine Chemistry Congress (38PCC) in tandem with the 2024 International Conference on Chemistry (IC2). The event was held on July 22-24, 2024, at the SMX Convention Center, Lanang District, Davao City, and hosted by the Kapisanang Kimika ng Pilipinas (Chemical Society of the Philippines) in cooperation with the Philippine Federation of Chemistry Society and Integrated Chemists of the Philippines (ICP) – Southern Mindanao Chapter. This convention is the largest annual gathering for chemists, chemical technicians, chemistry educators, and researchers in the country.
The theme of this year’s congress “CHEMINNOVATION: Sustaining a Better Tomorrow, New Ideas, New Developments, New Technologies” is a platform for chemists to explore the latest innovations, cutting-edge research, and revolutionary technologies that are driving progress and sustainability in the world through chemistry. One of the plenary lectures during the congress was delivered by Academician William Padolina of the National Academy of Science and Technology entitled “PAGTANAW 2050 and Sustainability: A Clarion Call for Chemists in the Philippines” which highlights the talent and tools in Science and Technology to innovate toward a prosperous archipelagic maritime nation by 2050. The operational areas include the blue economy, governance, business and trade, information and communication technology, science education and talent retention, food security and nutrition, health systems, energy, water, environment and climate change, built environment, and space exploration.
Further, the chemists’ fellowship nights were also part of the program which announced the recipients of the 2024 PFCS Outstanding Achievement Award from the field of chemical education, chemical research, chemical industry, and service to the chemistry profession.
The congress also serves as a venue for simultaneous parallel breakout sessions, viewing of poster exhibits, and exhibitor booth visits. The program concluded with a 38PCC synthesis presentation through an audio-visual exhibition and the invitation to the 39th Philippine Chemistry Congress which will be hosted by the Integrated Chemists of the Philippines to be held on July 02-04, 2025, at the Iloilo Convention Center, Iloilo City.
