The mining industry’s commitment to safety, environmental responsibility, and social development took center stage at the 70th Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference (ANMSEC) Awards Night and Testimonial Dinner, held on November 22, 2024, at the CAP – John Hay Trade & Cultural Center Main Hall A & B, Baguio City.

With hundreds of industry stakeholders in attendance, the event celebrated the top performers in the mineral industry through the bestowment of prestigious awards, such as the Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award (PMIEA), the Best Mining Forest Contest (BMFC), and the Safest Mines Award (SMA).

Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award

In accordance with Executive Order No. 399, Series of 1997, the Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award (PMIEA) is presented annually to mining companies that have demonstrated exceptional achievements in key areas of safety and health management, environmental stewardship, and social development (SHES).

This prestigious award symbolizes excellence, recognizing those who lead the way in responsible mining practices. To ensure a fair and thorough evaluation, the PMIEA Selection Committee (PMIEASC) and Technical Secretariat, supported by its Technical Working Group (TWG), conducted an extensive assessment and onsite validation process. From September 16 to October 25, 2024, the PMIEASC and its TWG meticulously reviewed the accomplishments and commitments of twenty-seven (27) mining and mineral processing companies from across the Philippines.

This year’s award was presented to thirteen (13) mining and mineral processing companies, which stood out for their commitment to reducing their environmental impact, ensuring mine safety and health, improving their rehabilitation practices, and fostering community development. The 2024 PMIEA awardees are as follows:

As the conference ended, DENR Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga's collective message was clear: mining can coexist with environmental protection, and the industry’s future must be rooted in sustainability, safety, and responsible resource management. The winners of the 2024 PMIEA, the BMFC, and the SMA serve as exemplary models, leading the way on a promising path towards creating a balance between the mining industry's growth and environmental conservation in the country.
