The Mines and Geosciences Bureau participates in the 24th Gawad KALASAG (KAlamidad at Sakuna LAbanan, SAriling Galing ang Kaligtasan) Seal and Special Awards for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and Humanitarian Assistance National Awarding Ceremony on December 13, 2024 at the Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City.
Gawad KALASAG (GK) serves as the premier recognition scheme in the Philippines for various stakeholders engaged in the design and implementation of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) initiatives. Primarily spearheaded by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), GK has been in existence since 1998 and comprises members of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
This year’s national awarding is joined by the best local government offices, public and private institutions, civil society groups, and individuals in the different GK categories, with the awards conferred by the President of the Republic of the Philippines, His Excellency President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. The heads/representatives of the Philippine Executive Departments and the National Validation and Selection Committee (NVSC) are also present in the esteemed event.
The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) is represented during the awarding ceremony by the Assistant Secretary for Mining Concerns and concurrent MGB OIC Director, Asec. Michael V. Cabalda, along with geologists from the Lands Geological Survey Division (LGSD) namely Ms. Michelle Grace Angela Mendoza-Villarosa, Ms. Ruth C. Madrideo, and Mr. Edward B. Aguinaldo. The science agency has played a significant role in the selection and validation process across various GK categories, signifying its commitment to promoting and fostering excellence in the DRRM efforts of diverse stakeholders throughout the country.
