The Mines and Geosciences Bureau–Metallurgical Technology Division (MGB-MeTD) underwent an inspection and monitoring process conducted by the Professional Regulatory Board of Metallurgical Engineering (PRB) on February 21, 2025. The inspection team, led by PRB Chairperson Hon. Agustin M. Fudolig, alongside PRB Member Hon. Juancho Pablo S. Calvez and Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) National Capital Region representative Ms. Mary Rose B. Lacandazo, conducted a comprehensive evaluation according to relevant professional regulations, recommending MGB-MeTD for the issuance of the PRC Certificate of Compliance, which is pending official awarding.
The inspection and ocular visit aimed to assess the adherence of MGB-MeTD engineers and plant foremen to key regulatory provisions in compliance with Section 7, Article II of Republic Act No. 10688, which regulates the Metallurgical Engineering profession in the Philippines. This activity was also mandated under Section 9 of Republic Act No. 8981 (PRC Modernization Act of 2000), which defines the powers and responsibilities of professional regulatory boards and Section X of PRC Resolution No. 1471, s. 2021, which outlines revised guidelines for inspecting educational institutions and establishments.
Following PRC Resolution No. 1471, the inspection evaluated critical aspects of metallurgical engineering practice, including reviewing the qualifications and credentials of Metallurgical Engineers and Plant Foremen, observing workplace conditions, inspecting facilities and equipment, and verifying compliance with ethical, technical, and statutory standards. Additionally, the team ensured adherence of said professionals to regulations from agencies such as the PRC, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Philippine National Police, and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, while identifying any violations under RA No. 10688 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations.
This recognition underscores MGB-MeTD’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards in the practice of Metallurgical Engineering in the Philippines, strengthening its role as an oversight and regulatory body of the government.
