In line with the directive of Environment Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo Loyzaga, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), through the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), has mobilized private sector resources to assist communities affected by the recent earthquake in Myanmar

Through this collaboration, DENR-MGB has mobilized a committed team of 15 personnel from APEX Mining and Energy Development Corporation to join the Philippine contingent in providing much-needed aid and support, according to Ms. Michelle Mendoza of the Lands Geological Survey Division, who acts as the agency focal in the PIAHC inter-agency coordination and efforts under the guidance of DENR Undersecretary Augusto Dela Peña.
The collaboration between government agencies and private entities is essential in enhancing resilience against natural disasters. The involvement of mining companies, which are often criticized for their environmental impact, highlights a shift towards more responsible practices that align with national and international goals. The emphasis on community support during emergencies reflects a growing recognition of corporate obligations beyond profit generation, particularly in vulnerable regions impacted by climate-related events.

Apex Mining's safety team and EDC’s rescue Doctors exemplify this commitment through their proactive involvement in disaster response efforts. Their participation in search and rescue operations in Myanmar illustrates the company's dedication to aiding those affected by natural disasters. Such initiatives not only provide immediate assistance but also foster hope among communities grappling with adversity. The courage and dedication displayed by these teams remind us that humanity shines brightest amidst disaster.
Since the devastating landslide in Barangay Masara, Maco, Davao de Oro, in February 2024, Apex Mining has been dedicated to disaster response. They continue to inspire people with their prompt action and constant commitment to saving lives. Their efforts demonstrate the potential for mining companies to contribute positively to society, aligning their operations with broader sustainability goals and showcasing a commitment to ethical practices that support vulnerable communities during times of crisis.

According to OCD Administrator, Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno, the mission is symbolic of the Philippines' cooperation with Myanmar in line with the "One ASEAN, One Response" commitment.

The DENR-MGB is appreciative of the compassion and solidarity exhibited by our mission partners. As they relentlessly strive to provide help to those impacted, we offer up prayers for their success and safety. I hope their efforts give the people of Myanmar hope and comfort. We stand with Myanmar during these difficult times.
