The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), through its Lands Geological Survey Division (LGSD), participated in the second part of the "Reconfiguring River Basin Management in the Philippines" workshop from March 25 to 28, 2025, at the Hotel Casiana and Events Center in Tagaytay City.
Representing the MGB were Mr. Edward B. Aguinaldo, Senior Science Research Specialist of the Geohazards and Engineering Geology Section (GhEGS), and Ms. Creszyl Joy J. Arellano, Senior Geologist of the Hydrogeology and Environmental Geology Section (HEGS).
This event was organized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - River Basin Control Office (DENR-RBCO), led by Director Sevillo D. David, Jr., CESO III, in partnership with the University of Glasgow and the University of Auckland.
It focused on applying nature-based solutions (NbS) and the River Styles Framework (RSF) to water resource and flood risk management, aiming to advance sustainable practices in river basin management amid increasing environmental challenges posed by climate change.
The participants gained insights into the values of NbS and RSF as sustainable and cost-effective river management strategies through a holistic, catchment-based approach and the integration of geomorphic tools and skills to determine river condition and recovery.
Overall, MGB’s engagement in this workshop represents a proactive approach towards safeguarding the country’s natural resources through informed decision-making.
