Director Leo L. Jasareno of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) appointed the most number of women in the top posts in the agency. The said positions are traditionally held by men. This is a breakthrough in the selection and promotion process of the MGB.

Dubbed as the staunch Gender and Development advocate in the MGB, Jasareno now has six women occupying top posts, the most number of women ever appointed by an MGB Director. This is viewed by many as a manifestation of his regard for women's leadership competence and abilities.

The women appointees holding top posts are:

    1. Officer-In-Charge Regional Director Fay W. Apil of MGB Cordillera Administrative Region;
    2. Officer-In-Charge Regional Director Nonita S. Caguiao of MGB Regional Office No. VIII;
    3. Lilian A. Rollan, Chief of the Lands Geological Survey Division, MGB Central Office;
    4. Dr. Yolanda M. Aguilar, Chief of the Marine Geological Survey Division, MGB Central Office;
    5. Edna R. Lorilla, Chief of the Administrative Division, MGB Central Office; and
    6. Eloisa L. Legaspi, Chief of the Finance Management Division, MGB Central Office.

''Expect that I will appoint more women in top posts in my administration in order to ensure gender equality and women empowerment in MGB,'' Jasareno said during the recent First Middle Management Conference held last February 4 in Brentwood Suites, Quezon City.
