The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) issued a Cease and Desist Order (CDO) on April 20, 2016 against an illegal quarrying activity conducted within Centerville Subdivision in Barangay Pasong Tamo, Quezon City.
Acting on the complaint of the residents in neighboring subdivisions regarding the "digging of adobe stones" within Centerville Subdivision, the MGB conducted an inspection and found out that the activity was actually a quarrying operation for Lithic Lapilli Tuff, commonly known as "adobe". The said operation was not covered by a quarrying permit and, therefore, violates the provisions of Republic Act No. 7942, otherwise known as the Philippine Mining Act of 1995.
The issuance of the CDO is part of the procedure to effectively implement the Government's campaign against illegal mining operations as embodied in MGB Memorandum Circular No. 2016-03 in re: Stopping Illegal Mining Operations.
