The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) joins the celebration of the World Environment Day and Philippine Environment Month.
The MGB has lined up activities for the said event such as the following: a simultaneous tree planting by various mining contractors /permit holders /permittees in connection with the celebration of the World Environment Day on June 5, 2016 and photo exhibit in all MGB Regional Offices that showcases the environmental protection and rehabilitation measures being implemented by mining contractors / permit holders /permittees. The said photo exhibits will be displayed for the whole month of June 2016 as part of the celebration of the Philippine Environment Month.
The country's celebration of World Environment Day was declared by the late President Ferdinand Marcos on June 1, 1973, by virtue of Proclamation No.1149, Series of 1973, in consonance with the United Nations General Assembly's Resolution No. 2994 dated December 15, 1972, declaring the 5th day of June every year as World Environmental Day and urging governments in the United Nations System to undertake on that day, activities reaffirming their concern for preservation and enhancement of the environment.
The then President Corazon C. Aquino approved the Proclamation No. 237 on April 4, 1988, declaring the month of June every year as Philippine Environment Month and to give time and effort towards the protection, enhancement and development of the country's environment.
This year's theme of the Philippine Environment Month is "Go Wild for Life, Combat Biodiversity Loss."
