The Mineral Economics, Information and Publication Division (MEIPD) of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Central Office conducted a 4-day training on Joomla, a software used to manage websites, in compliance to Administrative Order No. 39 which requires Government Agencies to use the Government Web Hosting Service (GWHS) of the Department of Science and Technology – Information and Communications Technology Office (DOST-ICTO).
The government aims to craft a standard template to give a uniform "look and feel" to all government websites, so the training encompassed the following topics: basic use of Joomla, its interface, navigation, detailed discussion of Government Web Template (GWT) and hands on activities.
In line with DOST-ICTO Memorandum Circular No. 2015-001 Series of 2015, the participants learned the required content, structure and design of government websites, and were sufficiently assisted by the trainers, as they created their own websites using Joomla.
At the end of the training, the participants presented their new websites and were almost ready to migrate to the web hosting service of DOST-ICT Office.
According to the MGB Assistant Director Atty. Danilo U. Uykieng in his opening remarks, The MGB is the best performing bureau in the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and we are also aiming to be the best department in terms of Information, Education and Communication (IEC).The agencies' websites are important because it represents the office and tells everyone what the office is about. It lets the people know "what services we offer to the public."
The training was led by Mr. Gregorio Iyo, Jr, Information analyst from the Department of Energy and an accredited Joomla Trainer, and training assistant Melanio Monte Jr, DOST accredited Joomla developer.
Representatives from all the MGB Regional Offices and MGB Central Office attended the training, which was held at the Icon Hotel in Timog Avenue, Quezon City on May 24 – 27, 2016.
