A team from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Central Office & Regional Offices IVA and IVB participated in the various events of the DENR Sportsfest 2016. Nine DENR offices competed from May 12, 2016 to June 9, 2016 for the following sports/games: darts, chess, basketball, bowling, volleyball, badminton, and table tennis.

The Sportsfest is a component of the Health, Wellness and Sports Development Program of the Department.

The official opening of the Sportsfest 2016 was held right after the DENR Flag Ceremony on May 23, 2016. The ceremony included a parade within the DENR compound, taking the Oath of Sportsmanship and the presentation of muse of each team. The other teams were contingents from the Office of the Secretary (OSEC), MGB Land Management Bureau, Environmental Management Bureau, Biodiversity Management Bureau, Ecosystems Research Development Bureau, Laguna Lake Development Authority, DENR National Capital Region, and a combination of National Mapping and Resource Information Authority and Natural Resources Development Corporation.

The MGB Team bagged the third (3rd) runner up place in the overall standing. MGB was first (1st) runner up for chess, second (2nd) runner up for bowling and women's volleyball, and third (3rd) runner up for table tennis, badminton and darts. The OSEC was the overall champion.
