The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Central Office, along with the MGB Regional Office No. IV (CALABARZON); Environmental Management Bureau, Provincial and Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices concerned, and DENR Strategic Communication and Initiatives Service, responded to a complaint aired by the Pambansang Pederasyon ng Kababaihang Magbubukid (AMIHAN) during their dialogue with Secretary Gina Lopez at the DENR Protocol Office held on January 10, 2017.
The complaint included allegations of harassment and eviction of local residents, land classification conflict, and alleged mining operation without an Environmental Compliance Certificate over an area covered by the Mineral Production Sharing Agreement of Asturias Chemical Industries Inc.
The joint site inspection was undertaken on January 13, 2017 in Calatagan, Batangas, and included personal dialogue and interviews with concerned residents, local officials and representatives of AMIHAN. On the same day, mitigating measures were formulated and the issues were addressed.
