The Mine Safety, Environment and Social Development Division (MSESDD) of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), in cooperation with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Quezon City Chapter, conducted the Standard First Aid and Basic Life Support Training on August 14-18, 2017 at Icon Hotel, North EDSA, Quezon City.
Thirteen (13) personnel from the MGB Central Office and twenty-nine (29) personnel from the MGB Regional Offices participated in the said Training, which aimed to equip MGB personnel with the basic knowledge and skills on first aid and basic life support techniques. The course included lectures and hands-on training on various injury management, bandaging, transferring of victim, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and proper use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED) among others.
Written and practical examinations were given by the PRC as a culmination of the said training to test the competency of the participants. Those who successfully passed the said examinations were awarded with Certificates as trained First Aiders.
Engr. Rodolfo L. Velasco, Jr., MSESDD Chief emphasized in his welcome remarks the importance of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan and the role of first aiders as Emergency Response Team members. The trained first aiders will also act as judge on the conduct of First Aid Field Competitions for mining companies during the Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference every November of the year.
