In observance of Philippine Law Day last September 19, Atty. Danilo U. Uykieng, Acting Assistant Director of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), conducted a public law Lecture on Environmental Law at the Manila Law College (MLC) in Sta. Cruz, Manila as part of the Bureau’s continuing commitment to information dissemination.
Said lecture was pursuant to Proclamation No. 640, Series of 1995, which directed all government agencies and offices to extend full cooperation to the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) in the celebration of the Philippine National Law Week.
Together with Atty. Josephine V. Sescon, OIC of the MGB Legal Service Division, Atty. Uykieng lectured before the MLC faculty, non-teaching staff and students during their academic holiday. The conduct of the lecture was pursuant to the Legal Education Board Memorandum Circular No. 09 dated 05 September 2017.
Held under the deanship of Dean Felipe R. Fragante, who is also the President of the IBP Manila Chapter, the lecture centered on the different environment and mining laws in the Philippines that have evolved over time.
It aimed to impart to the public and the academe an understanding of the different environment and mining laws to promote responsible stewardship of the country’s vast mineral resources. Strict adherence to these laws will ensure the preservation of said resources for the benefit of future generations, thus fulfilling the constitutional guarantee to a “healthful and balanced ecology.”
