Technical personnel from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) attended the roundtable discussion at Cocina Tsina/Phoenix Petroleum, Mindanao Avenue, Quezon City on October 10, 2018.
The event, Roundtable @ Lido, focused on the current mining situation in the country as well as the latest policies in the mining industry after the landslide incidents in Itogon, Benguet and City of Naga, Cebu. It also served as a venue for the discussion of the implications of these incidents to both metallic and non-metallic mining in the Philippines.
Engr. Teodorico A. Sandoval, Officer-in-Charge of the Mining Technology Division and Geologist Salvie Laserna of the Lands Geological Survey Division represented the MGB.
Also present in the roundtable discussion was Dr. Artudo Daag of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, and Mr. Rocky Dimaculangan from the Chamber of Mines of the Philippines.
The event was also attended by stakeholders of the mining industry in the Philippines and was hosted and moderated by journalist Mr. Melo M. Acuña.
Mr. Chamkor Singh and Mr. Jwala Singh of KHALSA AID were also present in the said roundtable discussion.
Khalsa Aid is an international non-profit and relief foundation founded on Sikh principles. This organization was also involved in relief operations for the incidents in Itogon, Benguet and Naga, Cebu.
