The Administrative Division of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Central Office coordinated with the Bureau of Fire Protection to organize an In-House Learning Event on the Fire Safety Management and Emergency Plan last September 27-28, 2019 at the MGB Multi-Purpose Hall. The theme for 2019’s Fire Prevention Month is “Ligtas na Pilipinas ang ating Kamtin, Bawat Pamilya ay Sanayin, Kaalaman sa Sunog ay Palawakin”.

The event is pursuant to Republic Act No. 10121, otherwise known as the “Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010”, as well as part of the Office’s professional and human resource development program and in compliance with the on-going application for ISO:14001:2015 – Emergency Preparedness and Response.

Mr. Ricky D. Flores, LL.B, MPA, Senior Fire Officer II, Bureau of Fire Protection, gave a lecture regarding fire prevention. He discussed the composition and characteristics of fire, along with the different types of heat transfer. The lecture also gave insight on actual cases involving notable fire accidents, tackling causes such as the violations of certain managements that ultimately led to the fatal incidents. The participants also took part in fire and emergency simulations outside of the lecture hall, challenging them to put out an actual fire by operating a fire hose and the different classes of fire extinguishers.
