Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) and certain mining companies’ foresters attended the 2019 Society of Filipino Foresters, Inc. (SFFI) National Conference at Legazpi City Convention Center, Legazpi City, Albay on October 16-18, 2019.

The said three-day event was hosted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Regional Office V in cooperation with the SFFI Bicol Chapter. About 2,000 foresters around the country attended the said event in Legazpi City, Albay.

With the theme, “Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) Act: Synergizing Public and Private Sector Investments in Protection and Production Forestlands”, the 2019 SFFI served as an avenue for the discussion of the salient features of the proposed SFM Act as well as the strategic opportunities and innovations in forestry management.

Among the topics presented in the said event are the following:
• Growing Rich while Growing Old
• Updates on the Status of the SFM Bill
• Synergizing the Management of Protected Areas and Production Forest Lands: Challenges and Needs,
• The Role of Business Sector in the Protection and Production of Forest Lands: Practices, Challenges and Needs
• The Role of Business Sector in the Protection and Production of Forest Lands: The EDC Experience
• Investment Planning and Development for Forest Management Units (FMUs): The USAID Experience
• Enabling every Filipino towards Forest Renewal using Advance Technology thru iTree (Individual Tangible Response to Ecosystem Enhancement)
• Developing Strategies for FMUs Respective of Protection and Production Purposes
• Continuing Professional Development (CPD): Professionalization and Retooling Requirements for Registered Professional Foresters
• Forest Management Bureau (FMB) Direction, Plans and Programs
• Achieving AMBISYON Natin 2040 through SFMA

The SFFI is an independent, democratic, non-profit, non-political, and non-partisan professional organization incorporated under the laws of the Republic of the Philippines and is the only accredited integrated professional organization of Foresters in the country as recognized by the Professional Regulation Commission.
