On November 29, 2019, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) celebrated its 121st Founding Anniversary.
The celebration was held at the MGB Central Office grounds in Quezon City with the theme: “#MineResponsibility: A Commitment”
The anniversary began with a celebration of the Eucharist followed by the official welcoming remarks delivered by MGB Assistant Director Danilo U. Uykieng.
An inspirational message was given by MGB Acting Director Wilfredo G. Moncano in the event. He thanked the MGB personnel for their hard work and emphasized the need for everyone to actively cooperate with the bureau in order to achieve future success for the policy and program directives of the bureau and the #MineResponsibility campaign.
He stated, “Continue to aid in our advocacy by spreading awareness on our transparency in the mining industry. We must work together in ensuring that this campaign will be successful as the planning for future information dissemination ensues.”
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Undersecretary for Mining Concerns Atty. Analiza R. Teh attended the event and read the anniversary message on behalf of DENR Secretary, Hon. Roy A. Cimatu. In his message, Mr. Cimatu noted the admirable effort of the bureau to rise up to the challenge of addressing the issues surrounding mining and geohazard in the country. He also thanked MGB for its commitment to advocate the practice of sustainable mineral exploration.
“I know that it is not only through the efforts of the MGB staff and officials, along with the private mining sector, to uphold the #MineResponsibility. It is our ultimate task to extend our knowledge in spreading awareness of how the MGB relentlessly and religiously performs its mandate”, he added.
In addition, Engr. Juancho Pablo S. Calves, Chief of the Metallurgical Technology Division, also announced that MGB Central Office was awarded the ISO 9001:2015 Certification for its Quality Management System and has been recommended for ISO 14001:2015, Certification on Environmental Management System by SGS Philippines.
The event was capped off with parlor games and raffle prizes.
