The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) and the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association jointly led the Social Development Speaks Forum held on November 20, 2019 at the CAP John Hay Trade and Cultural Center, Baguio City.
As one of the highlights of the celebration of the 66th Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference, the event was attended by the Community Relations and Development Practitioners; Information and Communications Officers; other representatives of mining companies all over the country; and representatives from MGB Central and Regional Offices. Also present are the officials and representatives from the local government units, non-government organizations, people’s organizations, and other stakeholders.
The morning session served as the re-launch of the #MineResponsibility campaign of MGB, a nationwide information campaign promoting responsible mining in the country. While the afternoon session highlighted the best practices and testimonies in the implementation of Social Development and Management Program, with the theme “Social Development Speaks: Gathering voices on development initiatives – for the welfare of the mining communities.”
Among the topics presented are:

• Efforts and Various Endeavors to Promote Culture, Care, and Change within Mining Company and Host Communities – Mr. Chito S. Maniago, CEMEX
• The Bamboo Initiative – Atty. Leo G. Dominguez, OLLI Consulting Group, Inc.
• Development Initiatives for Philex Mining Corporation’s Communities – Philex Mining Corporation
• Building a Greener, Safer and Stronger Republic – Republic Cement and Building Materials, Inc. – Bulacan
• Using Computer Simulation to Prepare for Incident Response and Recovery – Mr. Bruce Gilkes, ALTS Canada
• Geohazard Mapping through Stakeholder Initiatives – Innovations for Resilient Communities – Ms. Gia J. Veloso, Geoprojects, Inc.
About 1,000 participants attended the said event in Baguio City.
