Senior Science Research Specialists Rommel G. Patingo and Roxanne K. Samosa of the Metallurgical Technology Division, Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) participated in the seminar-workshop entitled, Risky Business: Risk and ISO/IEC 17025:2017 which was held on February 17, 2020 at the Manila Elks Lodge, Corinthian Plaza Building, Makati City. The Integrated Chemists of the Philippines (ICP) have organized the said seminar-workshop as a part of the celebration of the 2020 National Chemistry Week. It was facilitated by Dr. Edgar F. Paski, a renowned international assessor of ISO 1702 and a professor from the British Columbia Institute of Technology.

A great emphasis on the concept of risk is highlighted in the current revision of the ISO/IEC 17025 Standard, making it a prime topic of the workshop. Chemical laboratory managers, supervisors, quality assurance and quality control specialists, along with other chemistry professionals were encouraged to attend.

According to the ICP, the special seminar-workshop is an initiative to help prepare the professionals on their laboratories' SWOT analysis – a process of identifying the laboratory's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats as an aid to achieve long-term sustainability and success in their field of profession.
