MANILA, Philippines – Pursuant to Republic Act 11469 or the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) have released a Memorandum dated March 27, 2020, issuing the authorization of Regional Directors to realign the unutilized funds from the Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) of mining companies to support affected impact and non-impact communities from COVID-19.
The summary of accomplishment for the realignment of SDMP Funds for social amelioration has been updated as of April 22, 2020. The budget allocation since the first week of April has been increased – allowing MGB Regional Offices and mining companies to reach more people in need of assistance during this community quarantine.
Although ongoing concerns have been experienced, such as difficulty in getting supplies due to shortage; delayed relief goods mobilization; and strict area access, through joint effort, all the required supplies have been provided to almost all of the targeted frontliners and various households across the country. As a result, due to continued efforts made, more than half of the current budget allocated to national aid has been utilized well.
This initiative also complies with section 136-E of DENR Administrative Order No. 2010-21, Republic Consolidated IRR Act 7942, better known as the "Philippine Mining Act of 1995."
The entire mining industry and MGB shall ensure to live the spirit of service through active participation in helping to ensure the welfare of those most affected during this time of emergency.
