On August 1, 2020, Mine Safety, Environment and Social Development Division Chief Engr. Rodolfo L. Velasco, Jr. had a phone interview on the radio show, DZRJ 810 AM on “The Observer - Ang Minero” segment, hosted by  Mr. Felix Tambongco.

The segment revolved around the recent activities that the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) has accomplished amidst the pandemic and other concerns involving the bureau.

Engr. Velasco informed Mr. Tambongco of the mining industry's role in responding to the national health crisis. He explained that MGB issued a memorandum last March 27, 2020, ordering regional directors to allow mining companies to realign their unutilized Social Development Management Program (SDMP) fund to aid affected communities during the pandemic. He added, although the effectiveness of the memorandum has ended on June 25, 2020, MGB has extended it until August 1, to allow mining companies to continue serving communities.

Aside from the SDMP realignment, Engr. Velasco discussed the issues concerning some mining programs of MGB. He expounded on the difference of the Care and Maintenance Program, Annual Safety and Health Program, and Progressive Rehabilitation.

A brief update on the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Roy A. Cimatu's rehab and dredging rules and regulations and joint memorandum circular has also been mentioned. Engr. Velasco clarified the national government agencies, DENR and Department of Public Works and Highways, are responsible for the issuing of permits on the dredging master plan operation.
