Last August 13, 2020, the Inter-Agency Committee on the Restoration of the Cagayan River assembled at Narra Hall, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Regional Office No. II, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, to deliberate the proposed process flow for the dredging application along the Cagayan River. The event was headed by Cagayan Governor Manuel N. Mamba, who is also the Chair of the committee.
DENR Region II’s Regional Executive Director Gwendolyn C. Bambalan, who is also the vice-chair of the committee, assured Governor Mamba of their support as long as the project adheres to the environmental laws, rules, and regulations before proceeding with the dredging activity. Engr. Mario A. Ancheta, Regional Director, Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. II (MGB-RO II), also agreed with the project, stating a letter requesting the assistance of the Governor regarding the logistics has been arranged to be able to conduct sampling as soon as possible.
The members of the Inter-Agency Committee include representatives from MGB-RO II, DENR, Environmental Management Bureau, and the Department of Public Works and Highways.
