The MIMAROPA Region’s mining companies and mineral processing plants have given their support to the “Bayanihan to Heal as One Act”, with their total assistance amounting to PHP 60.9 Million during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As of August 7, 2020, the computed Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) and Corporate Social Responsibility funds of Palawan-based Berong Nickel Corporation, Citinickel Mines and Development Corporation, Coral Bay Nickel Corporation, Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation, and Unichamp Mineral Philippines Inc. have aided a total of 166,775 households, frontliners, as well as locally stranded individuals in the province. The relief came in various forms, namely food packs, personal protective equipment, testing kits, medical supplies, logistical support and transport services.
The local government of Palawan has also received financial assistance from these Palawan-based mining companies, another support for COVID-19 relief operations, along with the establishment of testing centers in the province.
This initiative is pursuant to the March 27, 2020 Memorandum issued by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau, which authorizes all regional offices to allow mining companies to realign their total unspent budget for 2019, which was carried over to 2020 Annual SDMP to aid the affected impact and non-impact communities in their respective localities during the enhanced community quarantine period.
