The Technical Working Group of the Provincial Mining Regulatory Board (PMRB-TWG) of Benguet with representatives from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-Cordillera Administrative Region (MGB-CAR), Benguet Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (BPENRO), Environmental Management Bureau-Cordillera Administrative Region (EMB-CAR) monitored the small-scale mining (SSM) activities of the Loacan Itogon Pocket Miners Association (LIPMA) last September 3, 2020.

An inspection of the SSM work area and facilities such as the adits, ball mills and tailings were performed and recommendations for improvement were presented to the officers of the association. The team also visited the nursery and other environmental project areas which are parts of their commitment to ensure environmental protection.

The mining area of LIPMA in Loacan was the first Minahang Bayan declared in the region in January in 2019; they were subsequently awarded a small-scale mining contract in May of the same year.

This activity was conducted as part of the regular monitoring activities of the bureau and the PMRB-TWG.
