Chemists Rommel Patingo, Estella Clarisse Glifonea, Roxanne Samosa and Marylle Del Castillo from Metallurgical Technology Division, Mines and Geosciences Bureau – Central Office, attended the annual National Conference of Chemical Laboratories (NCCL) last 23-25 November 2020. The Integrated Chemists of the Philippines (ICP) hosted the 4th NCCL with the theme "New Normal, New Solutions". Due to the ongoing pandemic, the conference was held virtually via Cisco Webex- an online meeting application. The event was participated by thousands of chemical practitioners from different parts of the country and even from other parts of the world.

The conference was a 3-day event wherein participants were provided updates on the latest practices and regulations in the chemistry profession in the Philippines. The discussions focused on career progression and specialization program for chemistry professionals; guidelines for the accreditation of laboratories by different agencies, such as Philippine Accreditation Agency (PAB) and Department of Health (DOH); and the process for acquiring laboratory permits from Philippine National Police (PNP) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for sale and use of regulated chemicals.

Another highlight of the event was an online forum wherein several laboratories shared the new practices and safety protocols they implement during pandemic. They discussed methods on maintaining social distancing and regular disinfection for a COVID-free work space.

Through NCCL, ICP aims to provide a venue where chemical laboratories could share best practices and learn relevant updates and new regulations regarding the chemistry profession.
