The Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award (PMIEA) Selection Committee (SC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC) for the Best Mining Forest Contest-Mining Forest Program (MFP) conducted a series of virtual presentation of audio-visual presentation (AVP) prepared by the shortlisted Contractors/Permit Holders/Permittees and their Operators vying for CY 2020 PMIEA and Best MFP on January 19-22, 2021.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the various Selection Committees and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) opted to continue to give recognition to the private sector’s initiatives and exemplary achievements in the protection of the environment and ecology to further promote private sector participation, enhance public awareness on the protection of the environment and ecology, and contribute to the growth of the economy and improvement in the quality of life of Filipinos.

The conduct of the said virtual presentation of AVP is an initiative of the selection committees of the said awards to continue the implementation of Executive Order (EO) No. 399, Series of 1997 in re: “Establishing the Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award”, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Administrative Order (DAO) No. 22, Series of 1989 in re: “Guideline for the Implementation of Adopt-A-Tree, Adopt-A-Mining Forest Movement”, NEC Resolution No. 2005-02 dated October 26, 2005 re: “Changing Adopt-A-Tree, Adopt-A-Mining Forest Movement into Mining Forest Program”, and to adapt with the ongoing Nationwide Community Quarantine due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In response to the call for nominees by MGB through a Memorandum dated December 1, 2020, a total of 18 and 25 contenders vying for CY 2020 PMIEA and Best MFP were endorsed, respectively, by MGB Regional Offices (ROs) by January 8, 2021.
